Profile: Lumière
2551 West Broadway, Vancouver BC Canada V6K 2E9
In French, Lumière means light, in its purest, most transcendent form. In Vancouver, Lumière means Rob Feenie's almost electric food.
With a dazzling combination of European sophistication, Asian simplicity and North American resourcefulness, the cuisine of Lumière has captured the attention and taste buds of food lovers all over the world. Since it opened in 1995, the restaurant and Chef Feenie have received accolades from many notable food critics ranking Lumière among the finest pioneering restaurants in North America along with other cutting-edge restaurants including Charlie Trotter's, The French Laundry, Jean-Georges, Le Bernardin and Daniel.
In November 2000, Lumière became the first free-standing restaurant in Canada to receive the Relais Gourmand designation, an honor reserved for those who specifically cater to the passions of the art of living, quality, refinement and a sense of the exceptional.
Voted Best Restaurant and Best French Restaurant by Vancouver magazine for an unprecedented seven years, Lumière's commitment to excellence is renowned throughout a city that has been enormously supportive over the years.
Throughout March of 2005 there was yet more excitement at Lumière as the doors were closed for a 1.2 million dollar renovation of the already world class kitchen, featuring a custom designed Bonnet stove from France.
The restaurant reopened not a moment too soon for a private dinner for fifty of his most discerning peers- the Relais Chateaux North American Congress.
