Profile: Brix Restaurant & Wine Bar
1138 Homer Street, Vancouver BC Canada V6B 2X6
Stepping inside, this 1912 heritage building is both comfortable and artistic. High ceilings and exposed brick & beam in the wine bar, vintage woods, crystal stemware, crisp linens and local art exhibits in the dining room. The seasonally changing, Modern Canadian Cuisine, presents local ingredients prepared with classic techniques borrowed from around the world.
The entrance is through a table-set courtyard, highly reminiscent of the outdoor breakfast rooms of small French and Italian hotels. The greenery-draped courtyard, with container flowers, comfortable tables & chairs, candles in the evening, is one of the city's most romantic dining spots.
Tucked under the windows of small businesses, artists & entrepreneurs, the courtyard, unlike many of the city's patios, is completely private in the evenings with no restrictions as to how long you can linger after dinner.
The cuisine is well priced and the wine list extensive with familiar wines, unusual finds and thoughtful choices. The wine bar serves over 50 wines by the glass and is a popular spot for locals, restaurant industry and the entertainment business to dine casually after work or for late night small plates after the theatre, a movie or late night working on set.
The wine program features one of the city's most extensive by the glass choices, each with its own description, and an in-depth bottle list that covers most of the world's wine regions.
Brix's owner & sommelier David Hannay is available to consult on your wine choice.
